Diane Ladd, Known For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Dies at Age 89.

The Oscar-nominated actor Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran passed away 89 years old.

The actress, with roles included Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, left this world in her residence in Ojai, California. The news was shared in a statement shared by her offspring, award-winning actress Laura Dern.

Laura Dern, who starred with her mother in several movies such as Wild at Heart, described her as “my incredible hero plus my precious gift being my mom”, stating that she was at her bedside when she passed.

“She was the greatest grandmother, mother, daughter, star, artist along with caring individual that felt like a dream come true,” she expressed. “We were lucky to have her. She is now with the angels.”

Early Career and Major Success

Ladd’s early career included supporting roles in television programs such as Gunsmoke and the 1970s featured her performing with the legendary Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

That very year, 1974, she appeared with actress Ellen Burstyn in the Martin Scorsese acclaimed dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. Her acting earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination in the supporting actress category.

Later Decades

In the 1980s, she starred in the thriller Black Widow, a suspense story plus humorous film Christmas Vacation and also took part in the show Alice, a sitcom inspired by the film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

In the subsequent decade, she earned another Oscar nomination for supporting actress Oscar nomination for her part in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart in which she portrayed the parent of her biological child the character played by Dern. A year later she obtained an additional nod for her role in Rambling Rose that also featured her daughter.

She was additionally the third cousin of playwright Tennessee Williams, whom she described as “a great influence throughout my life”.

During 2018, Ladd was misdiagnosed with lung disease and told she only had half a year left yet she recovered completely once her daughter shifted her to a new hospital.
