🔗 Share this article New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning. Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation. “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.” It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition. “Still unsure,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.” NYPD released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials. The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The shooter fled the scene. Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn. “My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking. “There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.” Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation. He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off. Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury. “He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.” Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
