Rugby league's governing body has stated that athletes who sign with the “rebel” R360 competition will be barred for 10 years.

The proposed competition, set to start in 2026, is aiming to attract players from union and league with hefty contracts and a condensed playing schedule.

Leading NRL athletes have reportedly been approached by the breakaway group, which will include six or eight men's teams and four women's sides located in key urban centers around the world.

The Samoan the rugby star, who plays for his NRL club in the NRL, has stated he has had negotiations involving the breakaway league.

Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be considering joining the new competition.

Eight major union teams, among them Australia, earlier declared a prohibition on R360 recruits participating in international matches.

“We've listened to our franchises and we've responded strongly,” stated ARLC head the official.

“Sadly, there will always be groups that try to exploit our code for monetary profit.

“They don't invest in development systems or the growth of talent. They only leverage the hard work of other organizations, putting players at risk of financial loss while benefiting financially.

“They are, in reality, copying the game.”

The league is co-founded by ex-England star Tindall and supported by commercial backers.

Following the prospective rugby union sanctions were revealed last week, it said: “We seek to cooperate collaboratively as integrated into the international rugby schedule.

“The series is arranged with tailored timetables for both genders and the organization will release all players for international matches, as written into their agreements.”

The breakaway group will apply for endorsement for its initiatives from rugby union's governing body, rugby union's regulatory group, at its board session in 2026.
