The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, all possessing unique anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on showcased footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character navigating a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these souls will change against your will as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms where their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
